LESSONS
I believe that creating music helps make for vibrant and
satisfying lives, and that music lessons are an important part of music
creation. Through lessons I seek to help students:
(1) Become skillful
players of their instruments by developing their sound and technique,
and learning how to care for their instrument.
(2) Gain knowledge of the
foundations of music theory (rhythm, melody, harmony, etc.) and learn
to read music.
(3) Learn to listen to music with an analytical ear and
learn melodies by ear.
(4) Incorporate music creation into their
studies by building a repertoire, improvising, writing original music,
jamming in lessons, and preparing for recitals and other performance
opportunities.
Early on, I will assess the student's skill level, ask if they have any specific goals, and then incorporate my own educational objectives to form a direction for the term.
